Today is Bodhi day, celebrating the Buddha nature within.
It’s a wonderful day to practice kindness and compassion.
I hope you had a sweet meditation last night. It was gorgeous where I live. Frigid, but gorgeous. The sky was clear. Venus was bright in the west as the nearly full moon was beginning her ascent in the east. The snow sparkled in the moonlight and the frozen air provided crisp contrast for viewing the night sky. I hung out in the medicine wheel for a while (I enjoy my eclectic spirituality
) taking it all in, until I just got too darn cold. I don’t know about you, but I find it much easier to meditate when I’m not shivering. Perhaps if I were truly enlightened my body would stay warm in frigid temps, but I’m not there yet. So into the house to a candle and colored lights and warmth. Ah…. Om sweet om.
In addition to Bodhi day, today is also Hari Kuyo.
You can read about it on the calendar.
Here are my suggestions for today:
+ Write out one quote from the Buddha that resonates with you.
+ Write a card or note to brighten someone’s day
+ In the spirit of Hari Kuyo, set a timer for 5 minutes, and spend 5 minutes weeding out your tools, whatever your particular tools are. If you have 8 spatulas in the kitchen or 27 hex wrenches in the garage, or 4 staplers or 18 guitar pics or 6 trowels… whatever your particular tools are, choose the best and the worst.
Bring the best to the forefront. Consider ceremonially laying the worst to rest in your own interpretation of a Hari Kuyo ceremony.
(And perhaps consider passing along some of the extras to others)
As for me, I’ll be saying thank you and goodbye to a few ratty old paintbrushes today.
Thank YOU for taking this time to nourish your soul. Your commitment to nurture your True Self makes the world a better place for EveryOne.
So truly, THANKZ! ![]()
